1. Little Spiridon (The "Spiridon Spirit" )
Hardly ten years old, but he runs!
Ten: that is Spiridon's age! A small fearless chap, truculent, brilliant of health and overflowing with life, he's found his place in the leading bunch. While, here and there, we can still hear terrified moms shouting to their toddlers: " Come on here! Give me your hand! Stop running! You'll be tired! ", he runs as a young wild animal, sometimes in small regular strides, to imitate the "grownups", sometimes - more often - jumping about boisterously, along brooks, in parks and gardens. He gesticulates, shouts with pleasure, stops, speeds up, sends back some forgotten ball, defies - by escaping - those who - proud of their well-established rank in society maybe but more likely jealous to see him so happy and sure of him - shout at him in a furious tone: " Wait a moment, you little devil! We'll catch you! "
